Carl Topilow, Conductor

Carl Topilow has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as symphonic and pops conductor, educator and instrumentalist. As conductor of the National Repertory Orchestra, a summer music festival based in Breckenridge, Colorado and formerly as conductor at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Carl has conducted a vast amount of the standard symphonic repertoire. In these roles, he has mentored countless musicians and conductors for careers in music. Graduates of the conducting program at the Cleveland Institute of Music and former assistant conductors of the National Repertory Orchestra are now music directors with many renowned ensembles.

Now in its 24th season, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra under Carl’s leadership has entertained audiences with its diverse and creative programs. His concerts feature the music of Broadway, Hollywood, jazz, rock and light classics, and have been well received by large and enthusiastic audiences. As clarinetist, Carl often finds an occasion to include a number on his array of brightly colored clarinets and performs regularly as clarinetist for jazz concerts and other musical events.
